recent discoveries i
In an act of subtle imitation of my friend mono blogging about music recommendations he received recently, I thought I’d write about the new music I’m currently listening to a little too much. Here are some of these albums:
- The Idler Wheel… by Fiona Apple
- Lemonade by Beyoncé
- 4 by Beyoncé
- Daydream by Mariah Carey
- The Velvet Rope by Janet Jackson
- Love Deluxe by Sade
- EUSEXUA Afterglow by FKA twigs
The first three were recommended to me because the recommender thought I’d enjoy them based on my general music taste. They weren’t wrong. In fact, I enjoyed 4 so much that I asked them if they knew more music that captured its same vibe which is how I got the next three that I adore. Daydream made clear to me how much of a copycat Ariana Grande is while The Velvet Rope is left me speechless how such a stunning record by someone who is Michael Jackson’s sister didn’t make her an equal household name. EUSEXUA Afterglow is a recent release and a different take on the EUSEXUA predecessor. It’s not really a sequel, but also not entirely its own thing. It’s more experimental than EUSEXUA proper and expands on Drums of Death.
I still have to listen to the following (also recommended based on liking 4):
- Erotica by Madonna
- Bedtime Stories by Madonna
- Janet. by Janet Jackson
- Butterfly by Mariah Carey
- Aaliyah by Aaliyah
- Diamond Life by Sade
And lastly, The Butcher's Ballroom by Diablo Swing Opera which I got recommended by mono because I wanted to explore this genre bending band.
I’m making this into a series, I think, that I will update every once in a while.
